We are seeking a skilled and experienced Telecommunications Drill Locator to join our team. As a key member of our crew you will be responsible for utilizing specialized equipment and technology to accurately locate and map underground utilities, drilling sites, and other relevant features before and during drilling operations. This role plays a crucial part in ensuring safe and efficient drilling processes by providing accurate positioning data to drilling teams and preventing accidental damage to existing infrastructure.
What You’ll Be Doing:
Use geophysical and electromagnetic equipment to locate underground utilities, pipes, cables, and other infrastructure to determine safe drilling zones. Conduct detailed surveys of drilling areas, assessing soil conditions, terrain, and potential hazards to ensure safe drilling operations. Collect data using various locating tools and GPS systems to create accurate maps and layouts of drilling locations. Work closely with drill operators, engineers, and other team members to ensure accurate drilling coordinates and prevent accidents or costly errors. Maintain and calibrate locating equipment, ensuring that all tools and technology function properly and are up-to-date. Adhere to safety regulations, ensuring that the drilling site is clear of hazards and all operations are compliant with environmental and safety standards. Provide reports and updates on site conditions, equipment status, and drill coordinates to the project manager. Troubleshoot any issues related to locating tools, equipment failures, or difficulties in the field.
Education and Certifications:
High school diploma or equivalent; some positions may require a college degree in engineering, geology, or a related field. Certification in operation and maintenance of underground locating equipment preferred. Additional certifications in safety or environmental regulations may be necessary (e.g., OSHA certification).
Knowledge and Skills:
Knowledge of drilling equipment, underground utilities, and the tools used for locating and mapping. Previous experience in a drilling or surveying role, particularly with underground locators or GPS equipment. Ability to spot inconsistencies in the data and address potential issues before they escalate. Strong communication skills to collaborate with teams and report findings accurately. Ability to troubleshoot issues with locating tools and equipment in the field. Ability to work in varying weather conditions and rugged environments, often on-site for extended periods. Fieldwork in outdoor environments, sometimes in remote or challenging conditions.
$23.00 to $28.00/hr based on experience

While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, and to talk and hear. The associate must occasionally reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, or crouch.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance and color vision and the ability to adjust focus. Ability to lift and carry up to 75 lbs.
